Welcome back to reality, those of us that actually had time off to regroup, regain some sleep, and catch up on our favorite shows. We have jumped right back into the groove in Math and I wanted to let you in on what to be expecting for this month. The end of Quarter 2 is fast approaching with the last day for grades being January 13th! We are finishing up addition and subtractions of fractions in story problems (CCSS.5.NF.2) and will be digging in to multiplication of fractions by whole numbers and fractions for the remainder of the month. We will also be working with measurements that you find in the kitchen (liquid containers, cups, teaspoons, etc...) as this is the begining of our Salsa Party conversions unit. The students are so excited to be able to "make it" come to life again this month as they did with the Snacks for One party in December. HPA's Middle School Exhibition Night will be held on January 19th. 5th Grade Families are invited to this amazing event from 5-7:30pm for a "First Look" at the thinking and problem solving skills that take place in the years to follow your student. Please join us!! The 2nd Quarter Awards Assembly will be held in the HPA Gym on January 20th. More information to come on times. We also are coming up on our Winter Student-Led Conferences, where students have the time and opportunity to show thier family all the amazing learning they have done so far this year. Students are preparing thier evidence and thier courage to be ready to help their families experience the HPA 5th Grade awesomeness that is their portfolios and showcase all the great things that have been kept safely at school. Check out the letter below to get a better sence of what to expect on January 25th - 26th from 4-8pm. Note: Mrs. Eisel's Homeroom families should sign upto reserve your spot at http://doodle.com/poll/4b58xcpn2dsnvmka !!
