Today started the work of seeing fractions as divisions of the numerator by the denominator. The 9 moves from the whole number to the numerator and then becomes the dividend in the division equation. The red 3 stays as the denominator until it moves into the devisior in the division equation. Students are starting to be asked to identify the fraction as a division of the numerator by the denominator, or 9/3 as 9 divided by 3.
Home practice: Give your student a fraction and have them recite the fraction as a division equation. Examples: 15/5, 15/3, 8/4, 8/2, 6/4, 4/5, 2/3
